When the day of Pentecost came, Christ's disciples were together in one place, and suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the place where they were sitting (Acts 2:1). They were filled with the Holy Spirit and immediate power and revival overtook them. Their expectation and sacrifice proved to be worth the wait. Today, Christ is still calling His disciples to unite during the wait, to unite spiritually in a place of prayer.
As I'm Waiting: Praying Through God's Silence by Ariel C. Jacobs is a collection of prayers that invite believers to wield their most powerful weapon during seasons of uncertainty and dismay. In 2020, as a plague brought sickness, death, and faithlessness to the body of Christ, Jacobs redirected the world's shared emotions into intercession, sometimes lament, petition, thanksgiving, and faith.
Just like those early disciples awaiting the promised Holy Spirit, Jacobs committed fifty days to intense prayer. Leaving no topic untouched, she found herself at the feet of Jesus crying out on behalf of her nation and world. This time of prayer enabled her to arise with confidence and an unwavering determination to help others do the same. The result, As I'm Waiting: Praying Through God's Silence, invites those with humble hearts to experience intimacy and peace given only by the Great Shepherd.
